As in previous years, the European Commission has launched a new edition of the SME Fund, a grant programme run by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) that aims to help small and medium-sized enterprises in the European Union protect their industrial and intellectual property rights.

Deadline: from 2 February 2026 to 4 December 2026, or until the corresponding credit for each voucher has been expended.

Modality: it is implemented through a reimbursement programme, which issues vouchers that can be used to partially cover the official fees corresponding to the activities that have been selected.

Types of vouchers: there are several types of vouchers available depending on the activity to be carried out:

  • Trademarks and industrial designs at national, international or European Union level, with a reimbursement of 75% of the fees for trademarks or designs within the EU and at national level, and 50% in the case of fees for trademarks or designs outside the EU.
  • National patents in an EU Member State and prior art search reports, with a 75% refund of the fees paid.
  • European patents and legal costs, with a 75% refund of European patent filing and search fees, and a 50% refund of legal costs incurred in drafting and filing European patent applications.
  • Community plant variety protection, with a 75% refund of EU-wide application and examination fees.

Amount:

  • Voucher for trademarks and industrial designs: maximum amount of €700 per company.
  • Voucher for national patents and prior art search reports: maximum amount of €1,000 per company.
  • Voucher for European patents and their legal costs: maximum amount of €2,500 per company.
  • Voucher for Community plant varieties: maximum amount of €1,500 per company.
