He is a specialist in Commercial, Corporate and Financial Law; and in Civil and Real Estate Law and has been Legal Advisor or Secretary of the Board of Directors in different capital companies and other entities.

In March 2007, he joined the financial world and was appointed First Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Unicaja and of its Executive Committee, and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Unicaja Financial Corporation.

Subsequently, he became Executive Chairman of said Financial Corporation and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Business Corporation of the Unicaja Group.

From December 2011 to April 2018, he was Executive Vice-Chairman of Unicaja Banco and, from 2012 to December 2019, he was Chairman of the European Bank of Finance.

From May 2018 to November 2019, he has been General Manager of Unicaja Banco and member of its Management Committee.

Between 2007 and 2014, he was also a director of various financial and insurance companies, such as Unicorp Patrimonio Sociedad de Valores, Compañía Andaluza de Rentas e Inversiones, CASER and Unicorp Vida.

He has also been a director of the real estate companies Espacio Medina, Inmobiliaria Acinipo and Muelle Uno.

From 2011 to July 2019, he was Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the listed company Deoleo -formerly Sos Cuétara.

He has also been a trustee of the Fundación Bancaria Unicaja, between 2014 and 2016.

In the public sphere, he has been a Member of the Andalusian Parliament for Málaga (III, IV and V legislatures), Senator for the Autonomous Community of Andalusia (in the V legislature) and National Deputy for Málaga (VI and VII legislature).

In the Andalusian Parliament, among other posts, he was Spokesperson for the Andalusian Grupo Popular (1993/99) and Chairman of the Trade and Tourism Committee.

In the Senate, he was Deputy Spokesman of the Grupo Popular, member of the Constitutional and Justice Committee, and spokesman in the Special Committee on the Internet, and rapporteur for the Law on Civil Proceedings and the Law on Data Protection.

In the Congress of Deputies, among other responsibilities and rapporteur on several laws, he has been Deputy Spokesman of the Grupo Popular (2005/07), Spokesman of the GPP in the Defence Committee (2000/04), in the Regulations Committee (2004/2007), and in the Commission of Inquiry on 11-M (2004), as well as Chairman of the Spanish Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (2002/2004).

In the political sphere, he has been President of the PP of Málaga, Vice-President of the PP of Andalusia and National Secretary of Communication of the Partido Popular.

He is the author of numerous legal articles published in specialised journals and in the national economic press.
